#GempakSpot: (Report) One In Five Children Skip School Due To Cyberbullying
Does online bullying get to you? You are not alone.
According to a report by The New Straits Times, three in 10 young Malaysians are victims of online bullying.
The report said the statistics came from a poll ran by the United Nations Children’s Fund (Unicef) and the United Nations (UN) Special Representative of the Secretary-General (SRSG) on Violence against Children, with a total of 17,000 participants between the ages of 13 to 24 from 30 countries providing their views on the matter.
Out of that figure, there were 5,000 Malaysian respondents, UNICEF said.
The poll revealed that out of the 5,000, 457 (or nine per cent) said they had used digital platforms to harass or bully others, while 63 per cent of them were not aware of cyberbullying helpline services.
The poll also revealed that one in five young people were reported to have skipped school due to cyberbullying and violence, and almost three-quarters of young people in the poll said social networks, including Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat and Twitter, were the most common place for online bullying.
If you're one of those people who strangely finds it fun bullying people online, please stop because you don't know how much it affects the victim.
