Food Fest Organiser Under Fire for Using Zara Qairina’s Photo to Promote Event
A food festival vendor was recently heavily criticised by Malaysians for being insensitive after using a photo of the late Zara Qairina to promote their event.
In a post on social media, the vendor shared a poster for a food festival held in Dungun, Terengganu. What caught netizens’ attention was the prominent placement of Zara Qairina’s photo in the centre of the poster.
It also featured hashtags such as #SuaraKamiTakAkanSenyap (“Our voice won't be silent”) and #BangkitDemiKebenaran (“Stand up for justice”).

The food festival reportedly took place from August 20 to 24 at Dataran Arena Merdeka in Dungun.
According to the vendor’s Instagram account, the event included several activities, including a solidarity run in memory of the late teen.
Photos from the event showed attendees holding banners and posters demanding justice for Zara Qairina.
Social media users were unhappy
On social media, many Malaysians condemned the vendor’s actions, calling them disrespectful and insensitive for using Zara Qairina’s image to promote the event. Some questioned whether the vendor had obtained permission from her family to use the photo.

“Why would you exploit such a serious issue for business profit? People these days seem to lack common sense—everything is okay as long as it brings in money.”
“Did they get the family's permission to use her photo? They're clearly using it for promotion. Not sure if they had approval or not,” said another user.
