Non-Halal Certified Businesses Prohibited from Using the Terms ‘No Pork, No Lard’ & ‘Muslim-Friendly’

The terms ‘No Pork, No Lard’ and ‘Muslim-Friendly’ are strictly prohibited from being used by any party that does not possess a Malaysian Halal Verification Certificate (SPHM).

In a TikTok video, the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS) reminded businesses without halal certification that they are not allowed to use these terms displayed, as doing so may mislead consumers into believing a product or service complies with halal standards.

The Trade Descriptions Act 2011 in Malaysia strictly forbids the use of any terms or labels that could mislead consumers. Only businesses with a valid SPHM are permitted to use such terminology.

Further clarifying, JAIS explained that the phrase ‘No Pork, No Lard’ only indicates the absence of pork. It does not address other concerns such as alcohol, cross-contamination, or non-halal gelatin.
