91yo M'sian Grandpa Proves Age Is No Barrier, Finishes 10KM Race in Under 2 Hours

At 91 years old, Ong Kim Hwa recently joined a half marathon and successfully completed it in 1 hour and 46 minutes.

In a post on TikTok, Ong who hails from Seremban took part in the Men's Senior Veteran 10KM category at the Petaling Jaya Half Marathon 2025.

It was reported that Ong was far from being a straggler in the race, as his finishing time placed him 118th out of 127 runners in his category.

Even more impressively, this wasn’t Ong’s only recent achievement. Just a week earlier, he completed the IJM Land Half Marathon, successfully covering 12KM in just over 2 hours.

Despite his age and the accomplishments he’s already achieved, Ong shows no signs of slowing down. He has reportedly made plans to join yet another running event in Kepong.

Needless to say, Ong quickly went viral on social media, with many Malaysians praising his determination. Others made humorous comparisons between themselves and Ong, wondering how a 91-year-old man remains so active while some younger folks struggle to stay fit.

One user shared an experience they had. “I was in the same category as this uncle yesterday. He was behind me when I reached KM5, but by KM7 or KM8, he overtook me easily. He didn’t even run, just consistently brisk walked. He reached the finish line two minutes earlier than me. This uncle is extraordinary. Hope all of us are blessed with a long life, and when we reach his age, we’ll still be as healthy as he is.”

“Meanwhile, some of us under 30 are gasping like fish out of water after walking more than 20 steps.”
