M'sian University Students Criticised for Wearing KKK Robes, UiTM Clarifies It Was Part of an Assignment
Recently, a viral video was circulating on social media showing a group of local university students allegedly parading on the campus while wearing Ku Klux Klan (KKK) robes. Unsurprisingly, the video gained outrage from many Malaysian users online.
In a post on X, the students can be seen walking around the campus dressed in KKK robes while holding crucifixes.
As a response to the incident, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) has issued a statement in defence of the students. As reported in The Sun, it was actually a part of their assignments. The group's presentation centred on discrimination based on skin colour.

“The costumes were part of a visual to help provide a better understanding and appreciation of the topic.”
Additionally, it is also reported that UiTM did not find the stunt religiously offensive.
In other related news, one UiTM student anonymously offered clarification that the incident involved a group of law students and it was indeed an assignment project meant to create social awareness of crimes against humanity.

The student also added that while their lecturer approved of the topics, the parading in the KKK robes was definitely not approved by anyone. They also pleaded with the public not to put the blame on their lecturers.
“The videos that have been going around are called our ‘social campaign’, where the main goal is to conduct a survey (like Google Forms) to see whether people are aware of this situation, and then the result will be put in our presentation. This social campaign is purely on the students’ creativity; no consultation or ‘green light’ of lecturers is needed, so the lecturers DO NOT KNOW about this campaign."
"This group in particular actually did conduct a survey through Google Forms, so this parade and them holding up the cross and also doing a photoshoot is completely just them being disrespectful,” they shared.

If you're unaware, the KKK, or the Ku Klux Klan, is a white supremacist hate group that originated in the United States after the Civil War, around 1865. The group was responsible for racist violence, terrorism and intimidation while especially targeting minority groups like Black Americans, Catholics, Mexicans and Jews.
