Shah Alam’s Raja Tun Uda Library Makes Top 10 List of Asia’s Most Beautiful Libraries

However, there are some stunning libraries worldwide, and Asia is home to some stunning libraries, including Malaysia!

According to a survey by SeaAsia Stats of Asia's Most Beautiful Libraries, the Raja Tun Uda Library in Shah Alam was named one of the Best Libraries in Asia, placing 10th.

Seasia writes, “Raja Tun Uda Library is a family-friendly destination that offers more than just books. It features a 3D and 6D theatre, a children’s zone with a giant Reading Tree, and panoramic views of the nearby Blue Mosque.”

The state library, inaugurated in 2011, stands six storeys high and covers 203,600 square feet. It was designed with a blend of vibrant colours and contemporary architecture. Its construction at the Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Golf Club was inspired by the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj, who envisioned a garden-themed library.

Aligned with its “My Second Home” tagline, the Raja Tun Uda Library strives to empower people through knowledge and services in a home-like setting that houses over 400,000 books and can accommodate up to 8,000 visitors.

Meanwhile, some of the other libraries on the list include Indonesia’s National Library of Indonesia (2nd), the iconic Starfield Library in South Korea (3rd), the Tianjin Binhai Library in China (4th), Japan’s Nakajima Library (5th), the David Sassoon Library in India (6th), Bhutan’s National Library of Bhutan (7th) and Taipei’s Public Library (9th).

Singapore is the only Asian country with two libraries on the list with their Rotunda Library & Archive and Bishan Public Library, which came in first and eighth place, respectively.
