(REVIEW) Revitalise Your Hair with the Most Relaxing Experience at Eka Roots, Bangsar
We were recently invited to visit Eka Roots in Bangsar to review and try out some of their services. Nestled in the heart of Bangsar, Eka Roots offers hair treatment experiences like no other. Unlike bustling, commercialised salons, it is housed in a charming, cosy bungalow that immediately makes you feel at home.
What truly sets them apart is their unwavering commitment to using only organic and natural hair treatments. This, coupled with the salon's layout, means that from the moment you step in, you are enveloped in a serene atmosphere where the focus is on holistic hair care that nourishes your hair and soul.
Products that are good for you
One aspect that makes Eka Roots so unique is that, compared to more commercialised hair salons, there are no heavy chemical smells upon entering. This is because Ekla Roots prides itself on using only organic, vegan-friendly, low-chemical products.
Esther told us that the products at Eka Roots are carefully curated and sourced from top certified organic international brands, including Italian names Philip Martin’s and Oway and the beloved Japanese brand Number Three Hue.
Additionally, for those dealing with sensitive skin, eczema, or simply seek gentler treatments, their range of low-chemical alternatives includes brands such as Davines, Medavita, Farmagan, Argila, Hair Toxx, and their very own Eka Roots Hair Plus Seri.
A comforting and relaxing sanctuary
Everything in Eka Roots is arranged for the comfort of its guests. The salon is housed in a bungalow in the heart of Bangsar, featuring plush seating, gentle lighting, calming music, and fragrant oils to create an atmosphere of relaxation, far removed from the hustle and bustle of typical salons.
They even have free Wi-Fi and tea and coffee. While I worked on my laptop in the salon chair, which was super comfortable and had easy power outlet access, there was also a comfy sofa and seating in the waiting area.
Their spacious lounge area is also perfect for hosting various events, from girls’ nights out to birthday celebrations, bridal parties, and pre-event grooming sessions.
Meanwhile, the premises have been separated into several different zones, which can easily be closed off for those looking for extra privacy, perfect for Muslim guests.

Our experience
As I had just had my hair done a few days prior, I decided to bring along my partner for the experience, who opted for an organic colour treatment (starting from RM410). When we entered Eka Roots, the lovely staff members, including co-owner Esther, greeted us.
Esther was super friendly and helpful. She guided my partner from taking a look at her hair to recommending which colours would suit her best. Due to my partner’s light skin and ethnic background, Esther suggested a lighter brown shade, which she hoped would result in a reddish brown shade.
Eka Roots uses organic hair colour by Italian brand Philip Martin’s, which contains no ammonia, SLS, parabens, PEGs, or propylene glycol. All ingredients are derived from organic farming methods. This means no chemical smell and overall safety for the customer and the stylist!
Besides organic colour, Eka Roots also offers other colour treatments such as natural, vegan, and low-chemical colours (starting from RM350), halal colour treatments from Japan (starting from RM410), and their popular henna colour treatments (starting from RM220).
Before proceeding with the organic colour service, we were treated to a rejuvenating ginger foot soak in hot water mixed with ginger in a tub. Esther explained that ginger foot soaks have many positive benefits, including reducing blood pressure, curing insomnia, eliminating fatigue, and many more.
What’s great is that the foot soak is complimentary for anyone who wants it, so there is no need to pay extra for the service! We were also offered some tea and coffee.
Whilst I was busy working out of the comfort of Eka Roots’ comfortable seating areas, my partner commenced her organic colour treatment. Esther had left her in the hands of one of the friendly staff members who began to section her hair and coat each strand with the signature Philip Martin’s hair dye.
Once it was all applied, she sat back for a relaxing 30 minutes to an hour to allow the colour to merge with her hair fully. After that, they took her to wash the hair dye off. The final step included them drying off and styling the hair.
My partner loved the result, and praised Esther and the other staff for their exceptional service. We loved how attentive they were at making us feel comfortable and at ease.
Overall, our visit to Eka Roots was nothing short of extraordinary. The cosy bungalow's serene ambience and their dedication to organic and natural hair treatments provided a refreshing change from the typical salon experience. If you’re looking for a unique and holistic approach to hair care, we highly recommend checking out Eka Roots.
